Gunta Stölzl begins studies at the Bauhaus in Weimar, attends the first classes given by Paul Klee and Johannes Itten and works together with Marcel Breuer on their ceremonial “African Chair”. She is asked by Walter Gropius to head the newly founded women’s class (we are in 1920!) and becomes responsible for the Weaving Workshop, getting enough orders to work to capacity: wall hangings, carpets, blankets, textiles reflecting her masters´influence, as Kandinsky. Gunta Stölzl work is delightful, delicate and absolutely contemporary even if not very well known.
